For a formal, university-branded credential, edX is built for exactly that. Vincoria's proof is the work you ship and the quizzes you pass. They answer different questions: a line on your CV versus the ability to build.
Should I do an edX course first, for the theory?
You do not need to. Vincoria teaches the concepts you need at the moment you need them, while you build. If you later want formal computer-science depth, an edX course stacks nicely on top of an ability to actually ship.
